What curricula are you familiar with?

I am familiar with the chemistry curriculum of the following schools: University City High School, La Jolla Country Day School, La Jolla High School, Canyon Crest Academy, Francis Parker School, La Costa Canyon High School, St Augustine High School, Academy of Our Lady of Peace, and Cathedral Catholic High School.

Do I have to sign any contracts?

Effective summer 2008, parents and adult students will be required to sign an acknowledgment stating that they have read and they understand my payment and cancellation policies shown on the rates page. Other than that, I have no contracts.

What should my child bring to sessions?

The textbook, any notes taken in class, homework assignments, and, if possible, old tests and quizzes. They’re ideal when studying for midterms or finals. Also, please make sure your child brings a scientific calculator.

Do you tutor for the AP chemistry exam?

Yes I do. The SAT chemistry subject test as well.

Do you do group tutoring?

No. Chemistry is best tutored one on one.

Do you do in home tutoring?

Only in University City, and parts of La Jolla and Sorrento Valley. Even then, I require that the parents be present at all times and that all pets are kept away from the session area. I have had problems with parents not doing either one in the past, and it has lead to me refusing to tutor their child. I do prefer to tutor at the coffee houses or public library, because they’re neutral locations for both the student and the tutor.

Do you have references?

Certainly. References are available upon request.

What are your qualifications?

I have a BS in Chemistry and have worked as a chemist for the past 13 years. I have tutored chemistry for the past 7 years, especially AP and organic.

My child is currently failing chemistry. His teacher recommends repeating the course, but did say passing is still mathematically possible if he gets an A on the last test and on the final exam.  Can you help?

I don’t think so. If there is only one test left before the final exam, then there are probably only a few weeks left in the semester. It’s unrealistic for anyone to re-learn a semester’s worth of chemistry in this short amount of time. The subject is too cumulative.

Are you bilingual?

Yes. I am fluent in English and French (reading, writing and speaking.)
